Why General Campaign Donations Matter
Not every donor sponsors a named set. General campaign donations fill the gaps between sets, fund urgent acquisitions, and keep the otzar growing. Here is what happens with them.
The Named Sets Are Not the Whole Picture
The Otzar HaSfarim campaign centers on named, sponsorable sets because that model is clear, direct, and gives donors a concrete understanding of what their donation does. But a growing yeshiva library is not only built from full sets.
There are seforim that do not fit neatly into a campaign set — a single-volume commentary that fills an important gap, a replacement for a damaged book, a text that a bochur specifically requested for a research project. These do not have a named slot in the catalogue. They are acquired when funds allow.
General donations create the flexibility to acquire these.
What Happens to General Donations
When a donor gives to the general campaign rather than a specific set, the funds are held for library acquisitions that fall outside the named sets. The yeshiva's administration allocates them according to current need — prioritizing the most urgent gaps first.
Every general donation is accounted for. Donors who request transparency can see how their contribution was applied in the campaign updates.
The Compounding Effect
Every sefer that arrives makes the next sefer more valuable. A bochur who now has Rashi and Tosafos on his masechta will soon reach a point where he needs the Rambam. The Rambam becomes more useful because Rashi and Tosafos are already there. General donations fund the acquisitions that complete these chains.
A library is not built in isolation. It is built one layer at a time, and general campaign donations are what allow the layers to grow at the pace the learning demands.
How to Give
If you want your donation applied to a specific set, choose a set from the campaign page. If you want to support the yeshiva's library growth without specifying a set, a general donation is applied directly to the next priority on the acquisition list. Either way, the impact is real and trackable.
General Donation
General donations let the yeshiva fund the most urgent need right now.
